COMBATING HEARING LOSS

Hearing aids are now worn by millions of people around the World. In the UK it is estimated that 1 in 6 adults are affected by hearing loss and over 6 million could benefit from hearing aids.

Gone are the days of large, beige, bulky devices that were visible to others and whistled when you got close to them. Modern hearing aids are small and discreet miniature computers, hardly visible to anyone while providing the wearer with clear, high-definition sound.

Types of Hearing Aids

  • invisible in the canal (iic)

    These are the smallest size hearing aids available, fitting deep in the ear. Typically lack Bluetooth or wireless capabilities and a high-power output due their size.

  • Canal

    Slightly larger than an IIC but can have Bluetooth or wireless connectivity and a higher power output. These aids can also be rechargeable.

  • half / full shell (ite)

    These aids are the largest in the ear aids and can either sit in the bowl of the ear or fill the entire ear. They have the highest in the ear power, come with Bluetooth or wireless connectivity and rechargeable options.

  • behind the ear (bte)

    This aid reminds people of traditional hearing aids. Modern BTEs however, are much smaller, have Bluetooth or wireless technology, the highest power output, rechargeability and come in many colours.

  • receiver in the ear (ric)

    Smaller than BTEs with the sound being transferred to the ear via a wire. Separating the main unit behind the ear from the wire going into the ear results in a very discrete look.

    They have wireless connectivity, a high-power output, rechargeability and come in many colours. This style of aid is the one most commonly chosen by our clients.

What To Expect

  • step one

    First of all we will perform a comprehensive hearing test to ensure that you really do need hearing aids and your hearing loss is not a medical referral issue or anything else such as ear wax build-up.

  • step two

    Following the test your Audiologist will review the test results and explain how hearing aids work and would be of benefit. You will discuss your lifestyle and budget, which along with your degree of hearing loss will help them determine some great options to suit your specific needs.

    After agreeing on the aid(s) and deciding on any extras such as the colour or accessories, we will order it and book you in for a fitting appointment typically the following week.

  • step three

    You get your new hearing aids!

    During the fitting appointment your Audiologist will put them on you to make sure they fit comfortably and adjust the sound to your liking. You will also be shown how to perform routine maintenance such as changing the wax filters, domes and batteries.

    Now you’re all set and can start adjusting to living with hearing aids. The next time you will see us will be during a follow up appointment typically in four weeks time.

  • step four

    It’s likely that after you have had time to adjust you will have some questions. During the follow up appointment we will see how you have gotten on with your hearing aids, check them and address any questions or concerns you may have.

    When you need more wax filters, batteries, domes or other accessories we can provide them so you know you’ll be receiving the correct ones. If you experience any issues with your hearing aids, book an appointment free of charge or get advice over the phone as we provide free servicing for 2-4 years depending on your plan.
